70 Years Ago, Forbidden Planet Changed Science Fiction Cinema

Despite the limitations of 1950s special effects, Forbidden+Planet is still an amazing movie. Especially, the+great+subterraneous+machine which is like a vast AI data center.

Forbidden Planet (1956) and STAR TREK (1966)

Forbidden_Planet was released 10 years before the first STAR TREK TV series episode in 1966. FP didn't have the level of special effects like in the 1977 STAR WARS movie, because there was quite a gap in the technology. Yet, the ideas, concepts and scenarios presented in FP still hold up today. Especially, as a cautionary story about mind generation, AI-3D printing technology getting way out of control.

"In the 1956 American science-fiction film, Forbidden Planet, we learn of a civilization on the distant planet Altair that had perished 200,000 years ago. The inhabitants of this planet, the Krell, had developed an ultimate machine that enabled them to enormously augment their intelligence and to effectively materialize anything through the exercise of will, thought, or imagination. As the film progresses, we come to realize that it was precisely this machine that destroyed the Krell and their civilization, as it provided their subconscious with unlimited power and resulted in “monsters from the Id.” https://www.qeios.com/read/GILKJV
