1973, some 5 years after the release of 2001: ASO, IBM opened its Chicago HQ was in the form of a 700' tall monolith supercomputer.

In a way, IBM has already been experimenting with Monolith computing technology. However, unlike the teleportation that's depicted in the movies, such technology is still in its infancy.

Teleportation of large objects is still quite a ways off.
