Some of the Best Things To Do In Chicago

 https://www.thetravel.com/best-things-to-do-in-chicago/

While Cleveland is a big city on the lakeshore, Chicago is the classic mighty metropolis on the lakeshore. Unlike DetroitChicago was able to extensively diversify its economy going into the 1900s. Detroit is big, especially the Detroit Metropolitan_Area. However, Chicagoland is quite a vast area, only the NYC, Tri-State+Area & the Greater Los Angeles Area are the biggest in the US.

Chicago and Toronto

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGXDMTCa_kE

Both are big and tall windy cities on the lakeshore.

 https://versus.com/en/chicago-vs-toronto

Thus, Toronto is more of a lakeside city like Chicago and Montreal is an island river city like NYC.

The Data Center Monolith

The Monolith was A.C.C.'s depiction of a hybrid-mainframe-topological-quantum-supercomputer-server. Whether in the year 2001 or 2010 such quantum machines still only exist at the theoretical concept level, as does time travel.

The former IBM Building at 330_North_Wabash, Chicago was designed to look like a 700 foot tall monolith computer.

"For the time it was built the IBM Building housed an extraordinarily large number of computers, which required an advanced level of environmental engineering. The walls were sealed by a plastic thermal barrier, and a reverse refrigeration system was used to reclaim heat given off by machines and people." http://www.emporis.com/application/?nav=building&lng=3&id=ibmbuilding-chicago-il-usa ,

So far the iP5 isn't quite shaped like a pocket monolith computer phone, but the iP5 has a lot of interesting features & potential. The Android phones don't seem to offer a monolith version either. Perhaps because its better to have rounded corners, but some people still might like to have a monolith phone. However, that option may have to wait quite a while until one can carry a room temperature, superconductor, Quantum+Computer in their pocket.

Neo and The MATRIX Nightclub Rabbit-hole of Synchronicity

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjoad6gcRzs

So when Neo sees the woman with a White_Rabbit tattoo, he decides to go to the nightclub.

Trinity:...

I was looking for an answer. It’s the question that drives us. It’s the question that brought you here. You know the question, just as I did.

Neo: What is the Matrix? http://quotegeek.com/quotes-from-movies/the-matrix/1272

Carrie-Anne Moss was a cast member of the short-lived television show Matrix (1993).

Gillian Anderson turned down the role of Trinity. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0133093/trivia?item=tr1852400

David Duchovny turned down the role of Neo in order to star in The X Files (1998). https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0133093/trivia?item=tr2169955

"The club was open for nearly four decades as a late-night 4 a.m. bar where goths, punkers, and more gathered to escape the sports bar crowd. The Wachowskis siblings, the filmmakers behind The Matrix, supposedly named Keanu Reeves’ character from that movie after the venue."  https://chicago.eater.com/2017/7/31/16070272/neo-nightclub-documentary-trailer-chicago-2530-last-call

"Neo was the oldest[2] or one of the oldest[3] running nightclubs in Chicago and was a hangout and venue for a variety of musicians and artists, including David BowieIggy PopDavid Byrnethe ClashSiouxsie and the Banshees, and U2."  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neo_(nightclub)

At the start of the 1990s, U2 went to record a new BIG tech themed album in Berlin. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Achtung_Baby#Berlin_sessions A Matrix club opened in Berlin but it was a few years after the recordings at Hansa_Tonstudio

"Matrix is a club in Berlin which opened in 1996."  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matrix_(club)

Jefferson Airplane’s debut show was on August 13, 1965 at the Matrix nightclub in San Francisco, then went on with several successful tours including performances at the Berkeley Folk Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, Monterey Pop Festival, Woodstock, and Altamont.

"When The Matrix closed, a nearby bar, Pierce Street Annex, leased the space and moved in, remodeling once again, and turned it into a nightclub with only a DJ and no live music. After the Pierce Street Annex closed, then-Mayor Gavin Newsom's company, PlumpJack Group, took over in 2000 and renamed the space The MatrixFillmore. Live music was incorporated into the venue during the first few years; however, this layout was not a viable venue for live music and the program was dropped. The MatrixFillmore was one of the first ultra lounges in San Francisco.[9] In 2017, the club name was changed back to The Matrix, described as a casual neighborhood bar with DJs and dancing on weekends.[1] In 2019, The Matrix was remodeled and renamed the White Rabbit." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Matrix_(club)#End_of_The_Matrix ,

Is Amazon’s HQ2 project stuck in the past?

 https://www.protocol.com/amazon-headquarters-arlington-office-space

One would think that Amazon might want to build the tallest building on the planet. Certainly the money is there for it. HQ2 will be significantly taller than the Apple_Park complex, but it still won't be that much of a tall building complex.

Of course almost any building can eventually be repurposed, if need be. So if there is an office surplus there are other options.

An office building in Chicago has become partially residential to become a luxury hotel.

330_North_Wabash was originally built to just be a 52 story office tower. Eventually part of it became repurposed as the-Langham hotel.

The Vancouver House Building vs. Other Towers

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ac2ucNfBbTA , https://www.structuremag.org/?p=15416

This is part of a Calgary and Seattle comparison series to show what they can do, simply because they aren't under any Vancouver type controls and restrictions.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/Vancouver_House

https://www.skyscrapercenter.com/building/vancouver-house/13987 155.6 m / 511 ft, with 52 floors above ground. There are also several underground levels.

https://www.designboom.com/architecture/bjarke-ingels-group-big-vancouver-house-virtual-tour-08-13-2020/

Vancouver_House would have been much more impressive if it was permitted to be on the scale of what Calgary and Seattle allows. However, Vancouver is such a watered down backward city, with so many imposed restrictions and limitations of what can be built. Thus, Calgary's version is at least 70 m or 230 feet taller.

https://upload.wikimedia.org/Telus_Sky

Telus_Sky is a 60 or 59-storey tower, 222.3 m (729 ft). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telus_Sky#Building_details

https://telussky.com However, from this picture, there seems to be 62 levels above ground, overall.

There seems to be a discrepancy with its total height.

https://www.skyscrapercenter.com/building/telus-sky/15466  225.4 m  / 740 ft with 59 floors.

Completion 2018
Height 729 ft / 222.19 m

https://calgary.ctvnews.ca/calgary-s-60-storey-telus-sky-building-welcomes-tenants-1.5976668

https://calgaryherald.com/business/local-business/telus-sky-officially-opens-its-doors-to-calgary

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_buildings_in_Calgary

Calgary and Seattle built theirs right side up, whereas Vancouver seems more like upside-down world. Nothing like Vancouverism has ever taken over other major cities in Canada or the USA.

"The 850-foot (260 m) tall, 58-story tower is located at Union Street between 4th and 5th Avenues adjacent to the existing Rainier Tower; it is the second-tallest building in Seattle."

Rainier_Square_Tower is about 105 m or 344 ft taller than Vancouver_House.

https://www.skyscrapercenter.com/building/rainier-square/16751 258.2 m / 847 ft

The first Rainier_Tower is at much lower height at 156.67 m (514.0 ft) and it's very close in size to Vancouver House. That's the difference with Seattle, because they didn't have to water down or Vancouverize their 2nd tower in the complex.

This really illustrates the difference of how small Vancouver House would be, if it was in Seattle. https://www.architectmagazine.com/project-gallery/rainier-square_o

https://www.architecturalrecord.com/articles/15099-rainier-square-by-nbbj

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_buildings_in_Seattle

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4/C If this is built, it will be at least twice the height of the small scale Vancouver House.

https://www.skyscrapercenter.com/building/4c/21952 Indeed, 4/C would be very close in size as to what is being built in Toronto.

https://www.oneyongeskytower.com , https://www.torontooneyonge.ca

Unlike Vancouver, BC, Seattle is allowed to not only build something that is impressive by Toronto standards, but what would even be tall by Chicago standards.

Luigi Mangione charged with murdering healthcare CEO in New York

 https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cly2zwqqr1ro

Was the murder of UnitedHealthcare+CEO+Brian+Thompson perpetrated by just one person? That will have to be determined in court.

"Mangione was carrying multiple fraudulent IDs and a U.S. passport, Tisch said. One of the IDs matched the fake New Jersey ID that the shooting suspect used to check into a Manhattan hostel before the shooting, the commissioner said." https://www.cbsnews.com/news/luigi-mangione-healthcare-ceo-shooting-what-we-know/

"Mangione was found with a ghost gun — a weapon that can be made at home, and is nearly untraceable — and a suppressor. He also had multiple pieces of fake identification similar to those believed to have been used by the killer, officials said, as well as similar clothes." https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/luigi-mangione-brian-thompson-shooting-1.7405958

"Mangione graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2020, a Penn spokesperson confirmed to CBS News. He received a Master of Science in engineering with a major in computer and information science, and a Bachelor of Science in engineering, majoring in computer science with a minor in mathematics, the spokesperson confirmed." https://www.cbsnews.com/news/luigi-mangione-healthcare-ceo-shooting-what-we-know

Urban Australia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urbanization_in_Australia

It seems that most people want to live in cities or their surrounding urban outskirts.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_in_Australia_by_population#Significant_urban_areas_by_population

Why 95% of Australia is Empty https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnB_8Zm9lPk

Australia is a fantastic vast land with only a small percentage of it that has been urbanized.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Australia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia#Economy

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australia#Demographics

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melbourne#Urban_structure

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_buildings_in_Melbourne#Overall

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_buildings_in_Melbourne#Skyscrapers_at_least_200_metres_in_height In comparison, Vancouver, Canada has only allowed one residential tower to reach 200m. No office-tower in Vancouver has ever been permitted to have a 40th floor.

There was a time when Montreal had taller buildings than Melbourne, but that was a long time ago. That's because Melbourne isn't vertically limited like Montreal is. 1000_de_La_Gauchetiere is the only office tower in Montreal that has been permitted to have more than 50 floors. Given the strict height restrictions, Montreal might not permit any building to rival the Rialto_Towers for a while yet.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_buildings_in_Montreal#Tallest_under_construction_or_proposed

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_buildings_in_Australia#Tallest_buildings_under_construction_or_proposed

It seems that Australia isn't waiting for Canada to catch up, by the time that Australia has its 3rd building consisting of at least 100 floors, Canada will still have no 100 story buildings.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_buildings_in_Canada#Tallest_buildings_in_Canada

The CN_Tower like the Sydney_Tower and the Sky_Tower_(Auckland), aren't office or residential towers.

The Harbour_Centre (stump) in Vancouver is a joke. The office portion of the building wasn't even allowed to have a 30th floor. Even the top of the antenna had to be less than a 3rd of the height of the CN Tower, because of the strict height limitations in Vancouver.

The John_Hancock_Center in late 1960s Chicago, was the first office and residential tower to have a 100 floors, outside of NYC. Australia just might eventually have a couple of buildings taller than the John_Hancock_Center

https://www.transurban.com/roads-and-projects/brisbane#gatewaymotorway The duplication of an already resonably wide bride has made for an impressive 12 lane crossing. One would be hard-pressed to find such a scale of bridge engineering in Canada, especially in BC.

Despite Australia having a smaller population than Canada, Australia has allowed for larger infrastructure, in some respects.

Of course if the cost of gas & EVs, along with the overall cost of living remains high, then more people will be forced to live in the 15-30_minute_city. It can be great in some ways, but many people would still prefer to work or shop in another part of town. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/15-minute_city#Societal_effects

Humans in this new AI run world might have to acquire permission to drive on some days. Even just to go to the beach or shop...

From Max Headroom to a Rap God and Reunion

"This tutorial will help you rap Eminem's fastest verse in "Rap God". Starting from a slow pace of 59bpm, it repeats the verse again and again in 10% increments up to the full speed tempo of 148bpm. This is the best way to practice rapping this verse."

Back in 1974, this was one of the fastest songs around.
It has got to be one of the earliest rap songs in history.

The No Fun City

https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/bc-place-contact-festival-noise After all this time, many people just can't accept or allow Vancouver to become like a proper big city.

As a city and greater urban region grows and densifies and become more diverse, there should be more things to see and do. However, that's not always the case with Vancouver, BC. Even if the stunted city had a lot less rain, it still takes a watered down approach towards various things.

Since the late 1800s and early 1900s, Vancouver was a perpetual provincial backwater. Then during the post WW2 era, Vancouver was kept in a slow growth mode, especially when compared to Toronto, Montreal and Seattle. By the 1960s & 70s, those & several other cities really started to grow outward & upward, but not provincial backwater Vancouver.

By the 1980s and 90s, it was becoming quite apparent as to how firmly entrenched the, HOLD VANCOUVER BACK AGENDA, really was.

https://www.udiscovermusic.com/stories/top-10-seattle-grunge-bands Something really took off in Seattle, which can be just as rainy as Vancouver. However, Seattle never took the water things down approach like Vancouver did. https://dailyhive.com/seattle/grunge-visit

Even by the 2020s, Vancouver still isn't allowed to become a big business and infrastructure center like Calgary and Seattle are. Buildings are kept short, most roads & bridges are kept narrow & the trains are kept short when compared to what Montreal & Toronto, Boston, NYC & Chicago, SF & LA have.

http://www.nofuncity.org , http://www.nofuncity.org/about.php

"What she did see, however, was a place that often lives up to its unofficial title of No Fun City."

“My parents own two bars in Alberta,” Kroll says. “It was really interesting for me to see how much harder it was [to start a bar] here than in Alberta.”

"And a segment on the Downtown Eastside makes a great case for why something in Vancouver needs to give: there’s something seriously wrong when the city will allow open-air crack deals at Hastings and Main but won’t grant a venue like the Rickshaw a permanent liquor licence." https://www.straight.com/article-321074/vancouver/running-venues-challenge-no-fun-city  by Mike Usinger on May 5th, 2010
