The_Doctor is a holographic depiction of an ai character of various possible hologram entities.
If a physical robot has its own OS to function in the real world, then a holographic robot would also require an OS.
http://www.startrek.com/startrek/view/library/characters/VOY/bio/1112409.html
Nanotechnology could enable a holographic robot (program) to physically materialize. Legends and myths talk about forces & beings from other realms that occasionally can physically interact in this world.
The Entity can be an intelligent force or being with a positive or negative objective. Event_Horizon is about a negative entity that has been able to cross over into this universe.

How many realities can there be?

Eventually a synthetic artificial_limb could be developed. While it would be nice to have the technology to grow a new limb, replacing lost limbs with synthetic living material may happen first.

{Jack_E._Steele-"his main focus was on bionics, a term he coined in 1958. The term was officially used in 1960 as the title of a three-day symposium in September of that year.

His work on bionics, and the USAF research on cyborgs, caught the attention of SF writer and aviation expert Martin Caidin, whose 1972 book Cyborg makes explicit reference to then-Major Jack Steele. The book formed the basis of the TV series The_Six_Million_Dollar_Man (and spinoff The Bionic Woman), which popularized, if somewhat inaccurately, the term bionics. (Dr Steele's original meaning was the study of biological organisms to find solutions to engineering problems, a field now also known as biomimetics.)  also see http://amal.net/?tag=biometrics

After retiring from the Air_Force, Dr. Steele continued to practice medicine with a focus on psychiatry, and served as Medical Director of the Comprehensive Drug Dependency Treatment Program at the Dayton Mental Health Center, where he worked for 20 years until retirement. The Crystal Ball

Since ancient times, some people have described or wrote about the concept of a crystal ball or sphere that could show 3D images. These images could be of things & events at various points in time.
http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Crystal_ball Quantum Bloch_sphere Terminology
Long before most humans could ever imagine the science required to develop TV & 3D imaging systems & Quantum computing, there was the concept of the crystal ball & the talking magic mirror.
Eventually inventors & technicians were able to create such things with modern technology.
The Oracle is an ancient concept but it has continued into modern times. The work of John_von_Neumann was an integral part of the ORACLE (computer) project at the Oak_Ridge_National_Laboratory.
-
By the mid 1950s, Philip_K._Dick had realized that special future computers & certain precognition people could tap into various timelines. So in a way, even in ancient times, some people had the idea that holograms could be seen in things like crystalballs. An advanced quantum-computer might be able to tap into specific points & places in time & space. http://www.theuniversesolved.com/theuniversesolved/blog/post/2009/05/Non-locality-Explained!.aspx
So whether its a crystal ball (spherical TV) or a talking magic mirror, flat screen TV or tablet PC, its modern technology that's based on ancient ideas in the mind.
-
-
But if too many people start to metaphorically perceive the universe as a vast interactive recording, there would be a lot more people questioning reality.

The Limitations of Bulky Desk Top Computers

A cell-phone is essentially a pocket size pc/laptop, but its also still good to have a laptop or desktop computer.
Portable computers & other Wi-Fi devices just don't have the limitations of a desktop computer.
Its just that more people will want to link their smartphone to their tablet, laptop or desktop.

http://www.businessinsider.com/best-smartphoneshttp://reviews.cnet.com/best-smartphoneshttp://www.pcworld.com/product/collection/1671/top-10-cell-phones.htmlhttp://thenextweb.com/mobile/2012/12/23/the-6-best-smartphones-of-2012,

At the other end of the spectrum some people just want to have a basic cellphone. Then they don't have to pay extra for a data plan or for using extra minutes. More of their money can go towards a laptop or desktop computer.

He certainly has created quite a popular data sharing tool for the general public to use & enjoy. All that's required is that people continue to post more of their personal information on line.
One should always be cautious about how much of their information they want out in the open.

Origins of the 2010 iPad

A portable Chalkboard also known as a Slate tablet. It has an x,y & z grid pattern that's ideal for applying the Cartesian_coordinate_system onto, along with the aid of a Slide_rule. Dave Chalk is one of several IT experts that's aware of the history & development of communication symbols & data image manipulation. A 1960s etch-sketch-pad was a partial improvement from a portable chalkboard. But of course the real jump would be into an electronic device.

Just another toy concept in 1959. Etch_A_Sketch#History

Just another sci-fi TV prop of a data PAD, or a depiction of future technology based on an ancient concept.
By the late 1960s more people were starting to think about the potential of an electronic sketch & note PAD.
By the late 1970s several key people were realizing the burgeoning technological gateways & Jobs that would be created well into the next millennium.
By the early 1990s, the Internet allowed the World_Wide_Web to really take off.
By 2010 more people started to think about the possibilities of texting, doodling or doing some serious web surfing underwater or in orbit. Although the iPad computer seems like a modern invention, the concept of a talking mirror goes back way into the past.

Nanotechnology

Nanotechnology & Inventions
By the early 1950s, some people were starting to realize that their house could become their base technology & neat gadgets. The late 1950s was a time when wiring that was as thin as a blade of grass was considered small. Just in time for the dawn of the 1960s, Richard Feynman informed the scientific world of the implications & benefits of Nanotechnology. http://www.its.caltech.edu/~feynman/plenty.html http://www.nanotech-now.com/whos-who.htm http://sliceofmit.wordpress.com/2009/07/03/richard-feynman/ http://www.feynmanonline.com/
- Eventually synthetic biochemical lifeforms could function as nano & micro size robots robots. In the early 1950s, people saw how Gort & the ship were an interconnected technology unit.

Microsoft and Windows

"Allen worked on a simulator for the Altair while Gates developed the interpreter, and it worked flawlessly when they demonstrated it to MITS in March 1975 in Albuquerque, New Mexico."

Paul-Allen really is the Idea_Man of technology...

The Windows, Microsoft_Logo is a little similar to the 4 corner states on a map.

https://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-unveils-new-logoheres-a-history-of-the-designs-evolution-2012-8

The Four_Corners area have been a special place for government research, like the IBM_Roadrunner & other corporate entities for the past several decades. Officially, the W7 logo doesn't symbolize the four-coners-of-earth. The 4 corners of a Sphere is an old mystical & religious concept. Even today, not that many people think beyond the parameters of their 3-D world. Thus, so many don't fully realize the implications of an Oracle or a Crystal ball. How did people in ancient times get the idea of seeing 3-D & even 4-D images in a sphere? There was no reference to movies & HDTV back then. Yet, somehow the ancient human mind could ponder the concept of seeing visions inside of an imaging sphere. This W7 logo just happens to look like a crystal ball with a fluctuating 4 Quadrant grid.

{Paul Allen was hired into MITS,[27] and Gates took a leave of absence from Harvard to work with Allen at MITS in Albuquerque in November 1975. They named their partnership "Micro-Soft" and had their first office located in Albuquerque.[27] Within a year, the hyphen was dropped, and on November 26, 1976, the trade name "Microsoft" was registered with the Office of the Secretary of the State of New Mexico.[27] Gates never returned to Harvard to complete his studies.} http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Gates#BASIC - http://wiki.oldos.org ,

Enemy of the State (1998) movie

"Thomas Reynolds' birth date is given as 9-11-40."

The TV series, Person-of-Interest also has an interesting connection with the #911.

"Gibson traveled to Tokyo in 2001 to prepare for this new novel, which takes place in London, Moscow, and Tokyo.[3] He did not travel to London or Moscow but used interviews with friends and internet resources for research.[4] In September 2001 Gibson had written about 100 pages but was struggling to finish. He stopped writing after watching the September 11, 2001 attacks on television and "realized [the novel] had become a story that took place in an alternate time track, in which Sept. 11 hadn't happened".[1] He considered abandoning the novel but a few weeks later re-wrote portions to use the attacks as a motivating factor for the distress the main character feels.[2] In a 2003 interview he said, "There I was, in the winter of 2001, with no idea what the summer of 2002 was going to be like. ... In the original post-9/11 draft, London felt more like London is feeling right now. Cayce keeps seeing trucks full of soldiers. But I took that out, because as it got closer to the time, it wasn't actually happening."
